Promote Intensified TB Case Finding among PLHIV and Vulnerable Group

For many years, Tuberculosis (TB) continuously remains as a public health issues in Nepal, it is estimated that active TB is developed in 40,000 per year among the general population. Increasing rate of TB associated death among People Living with HIV (PLHIV) shows that TB is a major life threatening disease among PLHIV. However, TB prevalence among PLHIV is still not clearly revealed; and PLHIV focused TB programmes are still not implemented.

Nepal National Strategic Plan 2010-2015-Implementation Stop TB Strategy

Naya Goreto expanded its sector from drug HIV and AIDS to TB and TB/HIV co-infection being a Primary Recipient (PR) of Nepal National Strategic plan 2010-2015, Implementation Stop TB strategy project in November 2010. During the implementation phase, NG was able to reach in various districts mainly in Kathmandu, Kaski, Rupandehi, Chitwan Dhanusha, Argakhanchi, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahotari, sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Dang, Banke, Surkhet, Dailekh, Bardiya, Kailali, Kaski, Palpa, Gorkha and Kanchanpur for Tuberculosis program , TB/HIV collaborative activities and ACSM activities. The major objective of those program was to create awareness on TB, TB/HIV co-infection among the general public, service providers, stakeholders as well as the vulnerable groups like Injecting Drug users, sex workers etc. All these activities have been conducted in close coordination with Nepal Tuberculosis Centre (NTC), District Public Health Office (DPHO) and District Tuberculosis and Leprosy Officer (DTLO) of all respective districts which shows the abilities of NG to co-ordinate with the national and local government bodies.

Orientation Program on Drugs, HIV and AIDS

Naya Goreto in collaboration with Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City (LSMC) organized orientation classes on Drug and HIV in various schools and colleges from March to July 2013. For the first time with a continuous advocacy of NG, LSMC/Social Welfare Division has allocated budget for organizing this kind of social welfare program in Lalitpur. This noble initiative of LSMC has help to re-integrate drug users in social awareness campaigns. In four months of time, drug users involved in orientation programs were able to oriented 78 schools and colleges of Lalitpur City.
